Alien hand syndrome or Dr. Strangelove syndrome, is caused by a mental disorder that leads him to one of the hands of the patient gains the ability to move against their will, as if life itself.
Apparently, this syndrome is more common (even if they are considered very rare cases) in people who have undergone brain surgery, trauma with severe injury or infection. Even those who have undergone a commissurotomy is a surgery that is applied to the separation of the cerebral hemispheres in order to ease symptoms of extreme cases of epilepsy.
The strange hand takes his own life, is able to move and to perform actions that the brain does not identify as collect orders. Can sometimes be dangerous because there are cases where people were attacked by the alien hand.
Professor Sergio Della Sala, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, conducted several studies that spoke to several patients (we have to clarify that there is a very small number in the world). In some of his studies was called extreme cases as a man tries to strangle himself every night or a woman who came to Office with his hands tied behind his back, because "no confidence" of what could be done.
Unfortunately, today there is no treatment that can eliminate these strange symptoms. However it has been shown that symptoms can be reduced substantially to fill the hand with tasks, such as possession of an object.
