You've heard stories of horror before Botox, as that Eric and Bonnie Kaplan, who went to the clinic of a friend of Botox in 2004, only to suffer pain and ulcers after receiving their injections, increased difficulty in breathing and paralysis the next day. The couple spent three months at the hospital in intensive care and life-support. Fortunately, they lived to tell the story in their book, "" Dying to Be Young: Botox of botulism. ""

Is that Eric and Bonnie Kaplan were injected with grade raw Botulinum Toxin Type A, that their friend was mixture itself. This particular blend of their friend injected with botulinum toxin is off, leading to poisoning of Botulinum.

While these cases are rare, it is always important for any knowledge on what is injected into you before undergoing you your treatment of Botox. Here are some things you should always find out.

(1) Is this really Botox?

There are several brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A in the market, such as Botox and Dysport. Several generic Botulinum toxin appeared often (manufactured in China), some of them not properly tested or controlled quality. These avoided at all costs.

NE never assume. Check that your doctor uses original Allergan Botox and do not hesitate to ask to see the bottle if you want to make sure.

(2) That makes Botox injections for you?

Only health professionals can inject Botox. At Singapore, only doctors are allowed to perform the procedure. You are looking for a trustworthy doctor who specialized in aesthetic medicine to perform injections for you.

This differs in other countries. For example, the United States, the nurses and trained nurses and Physician Assistants can inject Botox, depending on which state you live in. However, they must be under the supervision of a qualified physician who prescribed injection for you. They should also be able to demonstrate evidence of their medical training, training and licensure.

(3) Botox should only be done in a proper medical clinic

I had a patient who told me that she had received injections of Botox in a neighbouring country, by a hairdresser dire in the living room!

Although very safe, Botox is a medical procedure and should not be taken lightly. It should be done in a medical clinic, with appropriate facilities. You can talk to other people who have had their Botox previously at the clinic for their comments, to get an idea if the clinic and the doctor you visit is a good.

(4) Learn more about the possible side effects of Botox

Ask and understand the risks associated with possible with Botox, and if your injector has experience with them. If your doctor told you that he has never had a single case of side effects, then it is probably extended, or he did not simply many cases.

Side effects with Botox most linked injection, such as swelling, bruising, and redness. These are temporary and resovle by themselves.

Other more serious are PTOSIS asymmetry and eyelid (pending) - ask your doctor about these so continue.

(5) The price is too good to be true?

Finally, a Botox procedure should cost anywhere between $400-1 000 $ SGD in course, or 300 $-800 $ USD in the United States. If you pay significantly less, alarm bells should start ringing. Your injector may be using a different product which may be of lower quality, or worse yet, a version non-affiliates of Type A botulinum toxin, such as what caused the Kaplans to nearly lose their lives.

Botox is a very common procedure of the cosmetic, but lets not forget that botulinum toxin is one of the most deadly substances in the world. Find a good doctor and clinic and learn all there is to know before you get your injections made!
