During one of my courses of biology at the University, we were asked to analyze the ingredients that were found in a simple, common, everyday food. Much to my surprise was one of the ingredients that I found in a loaf of bread.
Take any bread and read the list of ingredients. For our example, we will use a generic 100% whole wheat bread. First, it seems that it would be very beneficial for our health but on the face of the list of products raw discover us quickly other wise. Ingredients on the State of wrapper of bread it is made of wheat flour whole usual, sugar, water, yeast, canola oil, soy and wheat gluten, salt, acid citric, sodium and a host of other minor products, some familiar while others may not so well recognized.
One of the ingredients which attracted my attention was something called azodicarbonamide. AZODICARBONAMIDE is a product that is generally used in the manufacture of PVC pipes and is an active agent in foamed plastics and rubber industry. Typical products that contain this chemical include sealing gaskets, automotive padded mats, exercise mats and shoe rubber soles.
My first reaction to this chemical that I discovered in my loaf of bread was why is it used at all. I found that generally everything in food which is unpronounceable by the common person is not healthy for you. Unfortunately, I've been proven correct in my assumption with this product. The World Health Organization stated that azodicarbonamide is a respiratory sensitizer capable to cause drastic respiratory diseases to workers who have been exposed.
AZODICARBONAMIDE is actually a synthetic chemical used as an additive food human. When used in this way, it is called E927. We find this chemical product used as not only a food additive, but as a flour and whitening. Indeed, it acts as an oxidizing agent and reacts accordingly with wet flour for the dough.
As I noticed he added my bread my initial question was if it is safe or not? Bread place azodicarbonamide in pulp manufacturer to maintain a spongy feeling in the final product. More further research revealed that the chemical was banned in many foreign countries as a dangerous addition to food. Singapore if you are caught using this chemical in foods you are liable to a fine of $450 000 and imprisonment of for more than 15 years. Australia has thus placed a prohibition of the chemical were most European nations. America so far has not placed any restrictions on this product and it is authorized to add to the food at a speed of 45 parts per million.
In support of the idea that this chemical is dangerous in food, it is erroneously proclaimed that azodicarbonamide is completely decomposed into harmless chemicals during the cooking process. This is simply not true, and the final bread is harmful to human beings human. It is believed that the main reason that it is deprecated in the European nations is because it is an oxidant and as such if consumed, he creates free radicals in the body, contributing to the formation of cancer. As aware of health people we should be raised with our Government for this chemical dangerous be fed to our families in our diet.
You may ask yourself what you can do since the bread is a traditional staple food around the world. Wide first, always read the package to see what are the chemicals in the foods you're about to buy. Stop to buy and consume everything produced in the oven that contains azodicarbonamide. Avoid the fast food restaurants such as Subway, Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts, McDonalds, KFC and other fast food companies chain. Because you must have bread you are presented with several options. You can buy organic breads at higher prices, or you can simply bake your own.
